Day 1

Your rental car will be delivered to your hotel in Cape Town or you may collect it from the Cape Town airport to begin your journey up the Garden Route, drive to Oudtshoorn, which is well known for the Cango Caves, the largest population of Ostriches in the world. There is also a crocodile and cheetah farm. The large town with its wide-open spaces and broad streets is the capital of the Klein Karoo.

The Thorntree Country House in the Klein Karoo is an excellent base from which to explore this unique and diverse area. The House is situated on the route to the famous Cango Caves, and the Swartberg Pass. It is also within easy reach of the Cango Ostrich Farm.

The beautiful homestead and outbuildings date back to the 1800's and reflect the typical architectural style of the period, and area. The property’s buildings have been lovingly restored to their original splendour, and equipped with all modern conveniences.

All 12 rooms are luxurious, spacious, and en-suites. They are all air-conditioned, have satellite TV, mini-bar, and room safe. The rooms are all individually and stylishly decorated, and have either a double or twin beds.

The dining is a reflection of the warmth and hospitality experienced at The Thorntree, and overlooks the swimming pool, with the picturesque Schoemanshoek Valley as a magnificent backdrop. Guests can enjoy a selection of excellent local cuisine, including the speciality of a trio of fillet (ostrich/ beef/ game).

Day 2

After breakfast, continue your journey on the Garden Route. The Garden Route is a region of infinite diversity and contrast from golden beaches, rocky shorelines, mysterious forests, breathtaking mountains and vast open plains, all united by an overriding theme of natural beauty. The secret and undiscovered garden of South Africa’s Cape is blessed with a mild climate that provides year-round opportunities for the visitor to enjoy the unique attractions of the region and to participate in a variety of leisure activities from water sports and hiking to whale-spotting and exploring historical sites.

The St. James of Knysna is an exclusive, owner run, Country House Hotel uniquely situated directly on the shores of the famous Knysna Lagoon, and the luxuriously appointed Suites and Rooms offer spectacular views of the lagoon and dramatic Knysna Heads or over the magnificent 3 acre gardens.

Accommodation has been luxuriously furnished and styled for ultimate comfort. Whether you stay in the Manor or the Courtyard, all of the accommodation feature en-suite bathrooms, mini bars, tea/coffee making facilities, satellite television, safes, irons & ironing boards, direct-dial telephones, bath robes and hairdryers.

In the Manor, there is the luxurious George Rex Suite and the Lady Anne Suite, both with large lagoon facing balconies. Two Deluxe Garden facing Suites, spacious Double Room, elegant dining room, main lounge with Mezzanine Lounge, Paquita Bar and swimming pool are also located here.

The remainder of the accommodation is in The Courtyard. Here you will find 4 Superior Suites, 3 of which are Lagoon facing and all with balconies are located on the upper floor and 3 Deluxe Lagoon facing Suites and two Junior Suites nestle around the Mediterranean courtyard with a private swimming pool.

The magnificent 3 acre gardens offer peaceful walks, large Koi pond, 2 swimming pools, croquet, and angling off the private jetty.

The Hotel boasts a superb dining room and well stocked wine cellar. Country style breakfasts, light lunches, teas and snacks are also served on the various patios and terraces. The spectacular and panoramic views of Knysna and the Lagoon can be experienced whilst exquisite cuisine is served in the candlelit dining room. You can then relax and unwind in front of a crackling log fire in the main lounge whilst savouring a fine port from the well-stocked cellar.

Day 4

After breakfast and a morning at leisure, drive through the Tsitsikamma forest to Port Elizabeth where you will overnight at the Kelway Hotel.

The Kelway Hotel is built high up on Brooks Hill Drive overlooking Kings beach and Algoa Bay. The Kelway Hotel, partly a log construction, is conveniently set on the embankment next to the Bayworld Oceanarium, and it is an easy walk to good beaches.

There are 62 rooms at the Hotel, many with private balconies, comprising Luxury, and Twin, and 2 Executive Suites. All are air-conditioned, have tea/ coffee making facilities, and are en suite. Elegant in style and generous in size the overall tone of the hotel is warm and inviting with care given to making guests as comfortable as possible.

For dining, there is Farriagers Restaurant – which has something to offer everyone, whether it be breakfasts, candle lit dinners, or merely coffee and cake on the terrace. The decor is a combination of timber and carefully selected modern masterpieces. Farriagers menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal changes and the availability of the freshest ingredients.

You can relax at the swimming pool, or walk to one of the nearby beaches. For the more adventurous there is snorkelling, scuba diving, shark cage diving, kayaking, water skiing, hang gliding, and jet skiing available in the area.

Day 5

After breakfast you will be met at the hotel and driven to the airport for your flight to OR Tambo International Airport. Pick up your rental vehicle and drive to the Kruger National Park.

Nkambeni Tented Lodge is located inside the Kruger National Park. The entrance to the lodge is through the Kruger National Park’s Numbi Gate close to White River and Hazyview. The permanent luxury tents offer you an en-suite bedroom with air-conditioning and a Jacuzzi on your private deck. The restaurant offers true South African hospitality and local food. A range of safari adventures are available at the camp.

Day 6

Spend the day at leisure, exploring Kruger National Park. Nkambeni offers the following activities (additional costs)

TRIBAL DANCING
Observe or participate. Feel the pulse of Africa reverberating through your being! The full- time Marimba band offers you Gumboot and traditional Shangaan dancing and drum beat evenings on Fridays and Saturdays. These can also be booked on request at an additional charge.

OPEN VEHICLE Safaris
They offer a half and full day safaris in the Kruger Park. The vehicles are designed to allow you close interaction with the animals encountered. You can request a picnic lunch from the restaurant and enjoy this when your guide stop at one of the picnic sites in the Kruger.

NATURE GUIDE EXPERIENCE
Join the training team for a short lecture on tracks and signs of the wild. The experienced trainers will teach you the skills needed to track and identify spoor and you can use this when on safari in the Kruger.

COMMUNITY TOUR
Nkambeni Tented Lodge is a partnership between the Mhaule Rural Community and Private Capital. Accompany the volunteers on a day tour of the Local Community and witness your contribution to Africa on a one to one basis. The Community Tour will take you to the George Mhaule School where you can witness our feeding schemes and the nutrient drink production plant.

After a brief tour of the Community you may wish to take the opportunity of getting down and dirty by assisting in the Community Organic Farming Project. This project is a world first in concept and design and enjoys the direct support and participation of the South African Government.

Day 7

After a morning game drive and some leisure time, depart back to Johannesburg. We suggest that you travel via the Panorama Route / Blyde River Canyon. Drop off your rental vehicle at OR Tambo International. From this point you will depart under your own arrangements.
