Day 1

You will depart Johannesburg on a mid-morning flight where upon arrival in Victoria Falls, you will be met and transferred to Ilala Lodge.

2 x nights Ilala Lodge on a bed and breakfast basis

Ilala Lodge offers distinguished yet affordable accommodation in a gracious and secluded ambiance. The decor evokes a bygone era of adventure and the quest of discovery in Africa.

The hotel is ideally situated and is the closest to the Victoria Falls as well as the town centre. The National Park borders the front of property and wild animals often graze on the hotel lawns with the spray of the falls in the background.

A small privately owned Lodge of just 32 Rooms, Ilala Lodge is the closest to the Victoria Falls, and most rooms have views looking over the Victoria Falls National Park, so you are quite likely to have elephants grazing within a few feet from your window!

Rooms are spacious, equipped with satellite television, air conditioning, coffee and tea-making equipment, and have en-suite bathrooms with both baths and showers.

Ilala Lodge has created a 'special atmosphere' of highly personalised and efficient service only found in small private hotels, but combined with the facilities of a major Hotel.
The magnificent swimming pool has a large wooden sun-deck overlooking the National Park, and is a welcome oasis from the bustling town of Victoria Falls.

There are numerous victoria falls activities to partake in, around the Falls. These include elephant back safaris, flights over the falls, guided walks etc.

There are two restaurants from which to chose, the elegant 'colonial' terrace restaurant offering a full a la carte menu of local and International dishes, and the open air Kubika restaurant providing such delicacies as venison, ostrich and crocodile tails!
Ilala Lodge offers a well priced, 'comfortable' verging on 'luxury' accommodation that is the most conveniently situated for both the Falls and the shops and markets of the town.

Day 3

Following your final morning breakfast, you will be collected and transferred back Victoria Falls Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg.

On arrival in Johannesburg, you will collect your car from Budget car hire and depart for the Kruger National Park.  Your first night stop will be in Dullstroom which is half way between Johannesburg and the Kruger Park as you will not make all the way to the park on this day.

1 x night Critchley Hackle on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Critchley Hackle is located in the beautiful, quaint and peaceful town of Dullstroom. Dullstroom, with its sprawling farms, Trout Rivers and dams, has a distinctly Scottish theme. Built in pointed stone and set around a beautiful garden lake, the setting is breathtaking.

Stay in one of the 23 comfortably appointed bedrooms or luxury suites, built at the lake's edge at this Mpumalanga lodge. Rooms are spacious and delightful, with a cosy lounge, fireplace and TV.

Sip a vintage wine in the bar or enjoy fine dining by candlelight to the sight and sound of water flickering in the night. Swimming pool, Trout fishing, trap shooting, falconry displays and of course shopping in Dullstroom are just some of the activities that can be enjoyed at Critchley Hackle.

Day 4

Following breakfast you will depart Critchley Hackle and drive 3 - 4 hours to Elephant Plains Game Lodge in the Sabi Sands Game Lodge.

3 x nights Elephant Plains Game Lodge in a luxury chalet inclusive of 3 meals per day, 2 game drives per day, 1 guided bushwalk per day and all teas and coffees.

Elephant Plains Game Lodge offers comfort, and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Accommodating only 22 guests, this lodge offers a personalised service, and an excellent wildlife experience. It is situated on the banks of the Manyeleti River, allowing for magnificent sunrises and sunsets. The pool deck overlooks a water hole, and the main Lodge is home to reception, dining room, lounge/ bar, wine cellar, and library.

There are two types of accommodation – the original five “Rondavels” (chalets), tastefully decorated, and set in a landscaped garden. They all have en-suite facilities, and air conditioning. There are also six glass-fronted open plan suites, with private decks. There is a lounge area, bedroom, and en-suite facilities which include inside and outside showers. The suites are air conditioned, have overhead fans, a fire place, and mosquito nets.
Mealtimes are mouth-watering events complemented by carefully selected wines from the Lodge's well-stocked cellar. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the dining room and evening meals are served around a fire in the Boma. Each meal is prepared with exquisite care and this, in combination with the open-air setting, promises an unforgettable dining experience.

Adjacent to the swimming pool, the wooden deck offers spectacular views overlooking the waterhole and scenic plain.

Your personal guides - an experienced game ranger and local Shangaan tracker - are keen to share their knowledge and love of the African bush with you. You will spend your days at the Lodge on extensive game drives, learning more about this beautiful and diverse area.

Day 7

Following a final morning activity and breakfast, you will depart Elephant Plains and drive down to Nelspruit to drop your car off and catch your flight to Cape Town.

On arrival in Cape Town, you will collect another car and drive 30 minutes to Welgelegen Guest House in the heart of the Cape Town City Bowl.

3 x nights Welgelegen Guest House in a deluxe room on a bed and breakfast basis

About Us

Nestled below the landmark Table Mountain plateau, between Tamboerskloof and Oranjezicht, lies the leafy old established area of Gardens, and in a tranquil cul-de-sac therein, you will find Welgelegen Guest House, home to many a return guest from far flung seas! Welgelegen welcomes you "home from home" and provides you with the comforts and extra luxurious touches you wish you could treat yourself to all year around. We are serious about providing you with all the attention you may need in a caring, informal and warm setting.

Welgelegen is a jewel of a Guest House, a gem set in a leafy cul-de-sac in the cosmopolitan city bowl neighbourhood of Gardens. Secluded and serene, it is only just around the corner from both Long and Kloof Street, two of Cape Town's trendiest restaurant and design destinations...Hence the name Welgelegen...the Dutch translation for "well-situated".

The Guest House comprises two Victorian houses joined by a wonderful cobbled patio with plunge pool, enclosed by terraces of iceberg roses and star jasmine. You can begin your day here breakfasting in the morning sun with Table Mountain your backdrop, or end your evening under the stars with a chilled Cape sauvignon and fairy lights flickering amongst the surrounding foliage.

All rooms are individually furnished with earthy neutral tones and splashes of both African chic and classic bohemia. The emphasis is on comfort...from the candles, the natural Rooibos bath products and the towelling dressing gowns in each bathroom, to the home-made biscuits, complimentary port and huge inviting armchairs in each room. The beds all convert to King size, and are inviting with crisp white linen, duck down duvets and soft silky cushions.  Every room has its own charm, most have balconies offering views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill or the patio below. One room has a travertine surround bath in the room complete with open fire-place, another has its own private garden and lily pond!

The attention to detail is reflected in the choice of artwork on the walls, the variety of books both old and new, the evening biscuit and olive bar, and the sumptuousness of the living room sofas. There is an overall feeling of luxury and spaciousness in the modernized dining room complete with leather chairs, enormous ornate mirror and lime mosaiced fireplace in the huge beaded chandelier in the hallway and in the tall windows and high ceiling cornices of the living rooms.  The atmosphere is both intimate and charming, and the room feels like a well-worn leather boot!

Fiona, the owner, has upgraded many of the older bedrooms and bathrooms marrying the old with the new, maintaining the ambience of chic afrique and timeless classicism. The still fairly new in-house treatment room provides even further pampering for the soul with holistic and polarity based massages, aromatherapy and stress release reflexology. Alternative therapies as well as manicures, pedicures, and paraffin waxes are also catered for.

Welgelegen retains the ambience of a well-preserved and treasured home whilst simultaneously sharing its warmth and sophistication with all those who venture up its hydrangea and lavender path. This guest house offers commitment to comfort, and a personalized (and efficient) service. In the words of a recent visitor “Welgelegen is excellent value and in a different league it offers a personal vibe in a naturally blessed destination."

Day 10

This morning you will depart Welgelegen and drive out to Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands where you can spend 2 days enjoying the wine farms and numerous restaurants in the area.

2 x nights Akademie Street on a bed and breakfast basis

Akademie Street Guesthouses in Franschhoek are different in that they offer five star guest house accommodation in three totally separate and unique guesthouses. Despite their differences, each guesthouse is adjacent to the next and all are situated in a quiet area in the heart of the Cape Winelands village of Franschhoek. In summer the sun shines warmly in Franschhoek but each guest house has its own sun-kissed swimming pool and shady, private garden where one can lie in privacy and listen to the cicadas and the cooing of the Cape Doves – sounds so evocative of the Cape Winelands. It is an easy stroll to the renowned restaurants and attractions in the village of Franschhoek and almost all of the most famous vineyards of the Cape Winelands are a short drive away.

Akademie Street Guesthouses are the perfect place in the Cape Winelands to enjoy peace, privacy and tranquillity but personal attention is always available. Franschhoek is the wine and gourmet capital of the Cape but is less than an hour from down-town Cape Town.

Day 12

Following breakfast, you will depart Franschhoek for your last 2 nights in the beautiful little Western Cape village of Hermanus, famous for the whales.

2 x nights Oceans Eleven Guest House on a bed and breakfast basis

Luxury travel to South Africa must include a trip to the town of Hermanus near Cape Town, and an overnight stay (at least!) at Ocean Eleven Guest House.

Hermanus is a quaint coastal town situated on Walker Bay on the Cape south coast of South Africa. It is a destination that should be included on any travel itinerary to Cape Town or South Africa. Although the village is small it has a city-like infrastructure and, having been a popular coastal holiday destination for over a hundred years, there are a myriad of things to see and do.

Hermanus offers the best land-based whale viewing the world. (At Ocean Eleven you can watch whales from your suite!) Our ‘Champagne Air’ is believed to have restorative qualities and many travel to Hermanus for recuperation and wellness. A host of adventures await you, from sea kayaking to paragliding to great white shark diving to golfing. The Hermanus Golf Club offers world class golfing and the famous Arabella golf course is minutes away. The pristine beaches, charming village shops, variety of restaurants, cliff paths and nature reserve, all nestled between an incandescent mountain range and the spectacular Atlantic Ocean, make Hermanus the perfect destination for a coastal holiday.

Hermanus is a beautiful 90 minute drive from Cape Town making it an easily accessible short-stay destination as well. Ocean Eleven offers guests luxury accommodation in Hermanus right on the cliff paths overlooking the ocean. The colonial style guest house exudes the grace and style befitting a destination which has the reputation of being the ‘Riviera of the South’.

Day 14

Today you will depart Ocean View for Cape Town International Airport where you will drop your car off.
