Day 1

You will depart OR Tambo Airport on a scheduled flight to Hoedspruit Airport where you will be met by a representative of Island-Safari and transferred by road to Monwana Game Lodge in the Thornybush Game Reserve.

3 x nights Monwana Game Lodge on a fully inclusive basis (see inclusions and exclusions below)

Monwana Lodge is a four star superior, exclusive game lodge, consisting of six air conditioned luxury suites. The lodge is run in a friendly, homely atmosphere encouraging guests to relax and enjoy themselves.

Monwana Lodge is situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve, which shares common boundaries with the Greater Kruger National Park and is approximately 12 000 hectares in size. This is big 5 country in the heart of South Africa's pristine bushveld.

Monwana Lodge is located on the seasonal Monwana River. The waterhole is strategically positioned so that animals are always within view. The Monwana River is the ecological backbone of the Thornybush Game Reserve, flowing briefly after heavy rains.

Thornybush Game Reserve is well known for its abundance of game. There is a great diversity of animal and birdlife with over 56 mammal and 300 bird species.

Monwana consists of six double rooms, including two family unit suites and a honeymoon suite. For your comfort all rooms are air-conditioned and have separate bath/shower and toilet facilities. Each unit has its own private deck or patio over-looking the waterhole or bushveld, where you can enjoy a drink and watch the spectacular bird life or game wander by.

All rooms are beautifully appointed with attention to detail. At the end of the day guests can return to their rooms and relax in comfort. All beds are fully netted and rooms are serviced daily.

A TYPICAL DAY AT MONWANA

Pre-dawn wake up for tea and coffee, before departing on the morning game drive. An experienced ranger and tracker, with extensive knowledge of the area, will read the previous night's tracks and lead you to where the excitement is, for instance tracking the big five. Game drives are on an open Land Rover, which will ensure the best possible game viewing experience.

A full brunch is served on return, followed by a midday siesta, a refreshing swim or waiting for the game to quench their thirst at the waterhole.

High tea is served in the afternoon followed by another exciting game drive. A sun downer drink compliments the African sunset leading to the night drive. Night time brings out the predators and many other nocturnal animals. Spotting nightlife or hearing a lion roar in the distance is an exhilarating experience.

Return to camp to freshen up and enjoy a drink with your ranger and hostess to discuss the day's sightings. A three course dinner concludes the day.

Weather permitting, one can enjoy a typical South African braai on our deck over-looking the Monwana riverbed. This is the ideal South African way of relaxing around a cosy fire with the sounds of the African nightlife in the distance.

Summers are hot with temperatures peaking around 40 degrees Celsius (Oct - Feb).

Winters are mild with cold mornings/evenings (Mar - Sept).

A warm jacket is required for morning and evening drives.

CUISINE

All meals are freshly prepared in Monwana's kitchen and we cater to a wide variety of tastes.

Meals are served in common dinning areas and can be enjoyed on a cold winter's night in the indoor dinning area with an open fire, or outside on a warm summer's evening with a view of the waterhole.

BEVERAGES

We are fully licensed and offer a wide selection of fine wines from the Cape. South African beers and spirits are also available.

Day 4

Following a final exciting game drive at Monwana and a delicious breakfast, you will again be collected and transferred back to Hoedspruit Airport for your scheduled flight back to OR Tambo.
