Knysna offers many activities and attractions, the most well known attraction being the ‘Heads’, two great sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon.
The Phantom Forest whispers a special magic filling the senses and soothing the spirit. From 14 serenely indulgent “tree-suites”, celebrating the textures of Africa and adding substance to the word privacy (only the monkeys can take a peek!) to the Body Boma where therapists work with Mother Nature bringing balm to the spirit with treasures from Fynbos, sea and earth….while the Forest Boma brings food to the soul with International cuisine for the most discerning palate or feast at the Chutzpah, a Moroccan styled fantasy with wrap-around pool. Meander through the timeless forest, glimpse the shy Duiker or the flash of a Knysna Loerie, hear the call of the Fish Eagle, or maybe paddle up the river with a delightful picnic. Upon arrival at Hoedspruit Airport you will be met by a lodge representative who will transfer you in an open safari vehicle to Kapama River Lodge
The northern Drakensberg Mountains provide a majestic backdrop to the largest private game lodge in the Greater Kruger National Park region. Kapama River Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve. There are 40 spacious air-conditioned suites, with log-beam ceilings under thatch. All are equipped with a mini-bar, tea/ coffee making facilities, and private balconies. Bathrooms are all en-suite with his and hers basins, bath and shower, complimentary toiletries and lotions and fluffy white towels. In addition there are two Royal Suites, and each has a separate lounge and extended balcony with recliner couches. The central areas include a large rim-flow swimming pool with sun umbrellas and recliners. There is a large lounge for relaxation, which includes a bar area. Dinners can be enjoyed in different venues - the Rhino Boma, with its popular buffet with a variety of dishes, all enjoyed under an open-sided thatch around a crackling fire and the Riverbed is a romantic place to dine, with the African night sky as a canopy. Dishes are prepared with seasonal local produce and fresh herbs grown at the Lodge. Ethnic dishes and accompaniments such as mealie pap (local-style polenta) and chakalaka (a hot and spicy relish) are used to give the taste of Africa, but more familiar food is also on the menu. The Lodge has an excellent wine cellar, of some 600 bottles, with the majority being a selection of quality South African varieties. The Reserve is well positioned, being not too far from habitation but still deep in the bush, which allows the Lodge to offer a range of activities. At the Lodge itself, you can enjoy two daily game drives, and an optional bush walk. In addition, there are some optional activities, such as a romantic Sleep out, or pampering treatments at the Spa – where facilities include a gym, steam room, and four treatment rooms. You also might also enjoy an early morning Hot Air Balloon excursion – an excellent way to see the beautiful surroundings. There is also the Elephant Back safari – for which the Reserve is understandably famous. You can also visit the Thulumahashe Children’s Home, where abandoned children are looked after with some help from Kapama. The Lodge also supports the Hoedspruit Centre for Endangered Species, which specialises in the rehabilitation of a number of indigenous species. For the more active, you can enjoy a round of golf at the Hans Merensky Championship Course.
