Day 1

Upon arrival at OR Tambo International Airport you will be met by an Island-Safari.com representative. Pick up your rental car from OR Tambo International Airport this morning for a Five and half hours drive to Kaia Tani. A 4 star Guesthouse just 1 kilometre from the Kruger Park’s Phalaborwa Gate. Check into Kaia Tani Guesthouse where there will be time for some cool beverages, freshening up and relaxing.  

  

Besides 4 twin-rooms and 2 family-rooms, all equipped with bath and traditional African furniture, a luxurious garden including a beautiful pool is waiting for you. In the evening, let yourself be regaled by their kitchen. They offer a mixture of Mediterranean and African dishes.

All rooms are individually furnished in true African style and equipped with bathroom, TV, air conditioning, hairdryer and bathrobes. Besides a lounge with library, they have a fully licensed bar overlooking the rock swimming pool, secure parking, safe and coffee and tea making facilities under the lapa. They offer laundry service for their guests, airport transfers, arrangement of massages treatments and will assist with bookings for Safaris or other excursions in the area.

Day 2

Your one full day on safari will be spent exploring Kruger Park and surrounding areas or you can just relax and be spoiled by the staff. 

Day 3 (This has to be a Tuesday)

Depart Kaia Tani and drive to Letaba in the Kruger National Park. Guests are met on Tuesdays outside the reception office at Letaba rest camp in Kruger National Park at 12.00 for 12.30 departure (winter) and 13.00 for 13.30 departure (summer) for transfer to Machampane Wilderness camp in an open safari vehicle. (Guest vehicles are parked at the Letaba staff village for the duration of their stay at Machampane).

  • Distance from Phalaborwa via Letaba and Giriyondo border is 125 kilometres
  • Game drive all the way and takes approximately 3.5 to 4.0 hours
  • 70 kilometres is on tarred road and remaining 55 kilometres on gravel which is corrugated and stony.

This is a luxury tented camp in Mozambique's Parque Nacional do Limpopo. Machampane offers an unforgettable bushveld experience. Unspoilt and pristine! They have walking trails that leaves from their tented camp and you return to, after your daily walks. (Also, should you be interested - They offer hiking trails where they use different bushcamps each night and also a canoeing trail. It's a 4-night trail on the Olifants River)

Located in Parque Nacional do Limpopo, the 1.1 million hectare Moçambique sector of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, adjacent to Kruger National Park.
Unfenced luxury bush camp nestled under trees on bank of Machampane River.
Situated in a Big 5 pristine wilderness area stocked with game from Kruger National Park. Fence between the two National Parks has not yet been removed in this area but is scheduled for removal by 2010. As a consequence no repair work is being done and animals move freely through the holes in the fence line.

Accommodation

5 en-suite tents accommodating up to 10 people and offering an intimate wilderness experience. Each tent has its own deck, with chairs and table, overlooking the water.
 
Tents are equipped with:

  • Twin beds, good quality linen and duvets.
  • Bedside tables with12 volt bedside lamps.
  • Wardrobe, writing table and chair.
  • Luggage rack and Kilim rug.

Please note:

There are no hairdryers in the tents nor air-conditioning as power is only 12 volt.
Water is drawn from the river in front of the camp and is a scarce resource.
For this reason laundry is done in Phalaborwa 125 kilometres from the camp and linen and towel changes are limited to the duration of a guest’s stay unless circumstances require otherwise.

  • Guests are encouraged to use water sparingly.

Bathrooms comprise
Large shower, wash-hand basin and flush toilet.
Rooibos soap, sandalwood moisturizing hand-cream and shampoo provided.
Hot water provided through gas water heaters.

Central dining deck
All guests are seated together at one table for meals which are prepared and served from a tented kitchen.

Boma
Open to the night sky.
Pre and post dinner drinks and snacks are served in the fire lit Boma.

Meals
Breakfast served on the day guests depart from camp (Approx 07.30).
Brunch served on the days that guests are out on wilderness walks (approx 10.30).
Dinner 3 course meal with Moçambique/Shangaan influence (approx 19.30).
Complimentary tea, coffee and rusks available throughout the day

Bottled water provided in tents.
Limited stock of popular brand spirits and mixers available for sale

Power
Power supplied by a generator providing 220 volt power.
Generator operates for four hours per day whilst guests are on wilderness walks.
Computers and cameras can be charged during generator operating hours.
Out of generator operating hours only 12 volt lighting is available in tents

Activities
Wilderness walks are the primary activity offered at Machampane camp.
Night game drives are also offered as an optional extra activity.
Morning and afternoon guided wilderness walks are accompanied by an armed Parks ranger.
Wilderness walks are intended as an environmental awareness experience and not as a “route march”.
Guide sets the pace to accommodate the individual’s walking pace and interests.
Complimentary snacks (fruit, cheese wedges, biscuits) and beverages (water, fruit juice) are provided.
Morning walks start 15 minutes after sunrise and take 4 to 5 hours.
Afternoon walks start around 15.00 and take about 2, 5 hours.
Wilderness walks are included in the price of a three day wilderness trail but are an optional extra when only tented accommodation is booked.

Walk commences 15 minutes after sunrise
Walk for 4-5 hours, stopping en-route at a waterhole or observation point for a rest and snack/drink.
Return to camp for brunch at around 11.00
Siesta or bird watching until 15.00
Meet for tea/ coffee and rusks or muffins on the deck
Walk for 2-2, 5 hours
Return to camp for sundowners in the Boma
Dinner is served on the deck around 19.30
Relax around the fire in the Boma after dinner with a night-cap

Depart Machampane camp around 8.30 for Letaba
Arrive Letaba between 11.00 and 11.30 on Friday morning and drive to Hannah Game Lodge in the Ohrigstad area. 

Near Ohrigstad, Hannah Game Lodge is ideally situated for those who wish to explore the Lowveld and discover all its treasures - God's Window, Pilgrims Rest, Three Rondavels, and Bourke’s Luck Potholes. They are a mere 90 minutes drive from the Kruger National Park and a comfortable three and a half hours from Johannesburg.

The 8000 hectares of this scientifically managed reserve abounds with plains, hills and mountains accommodating diverse habitats. Apart from Rhino and Buffalo, some 17 species of antelope can be seen, including the very rare Sable Antelope, Tsessebe, Mountain Reedbuck, Springbok, Eland and Gemsbok to name just a few.

Numerous Leopard have also been identified in the area, but are understandably, not often seen. For the vivid bird watcher, there are over 250 species of birds on the reserve - it is therefore important to pack a pair of binoculars when visiting Hannah. Apart from the expected typical bushveld birdlife, you can see ostriches and if you are in luck, a Secretary Bird stalking its prey in the grass. 3 Game drives depart daily.

The morning drive departs at 6am in summer and 6:30am in the winter months. Coffee and tea are served prior to departure and breakfast is enjoyed after the morning drive. The afternoon drive departs at 4pm in the winter and 4:30pm in the summer months. The game drive excursion lasts for approximately an hour and a half. Game walks are conducted on prior arrangement.

Drive back to OR Tambo International. Drop off your rental car. From this point you will depart under your own arrangements.
